Self-Compassion Scale – Short Form (SCS-SF)
A 12-item measure of how kindly you treat yourself when things go wrong.
Über diesen Test
Self-compassion is the way you treat yourself when you fail, feel inadequate, or go through a hard time — with warmth and understanding instead of harsh self-criticism. This short form gives one overall self-compassion score. Higher scores mean a kinder, more balanced way of relating to yourself. Some items describe self-critical reactions and are scored in reverse, so that a high total always means more self-compassion.

Häufige Fragen
How is the SCS-SF scored?
Six items describe self-critical reactions and are reverse-scored, then all twelve answers (each 1 to 5) are added up. The total ranges from 12 to 60, and a higher score means more self-compassion. The original scale uses the average (1 to 5); this is the same result on a different scale.
Can self-compassion be improved?
Yes. Self-compassion is a skill, not a fixed trait. Noticing harsh self-talk, speaking to yourself as you would to a friend, and remembering that struggle is part of being human all help — and there are structured programmes that teach it.
Can I use it for free?
Yes. The scale's author grants permission to use it for any purpose with credit. We show it free and credit the source.
