Emotion regulation
Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ)
Two results: how much you use reappraisal and suppression.
About this test
The ERQ looks at two everyday ways people manage their feelings. Reappraisal means changing how you think about a situation to change how you feel about it. Suppression means holding your feelings in and not showing them. You get a separate score for each — they are independent, and reappraisal is generally linked with better well-being.
Frequently asked questions
Why two results?
Reappraisal and suppression are two separate strategies — you can be high or low on each. The ERQ reports them separately.
Is one strategy better?
Research links reappraisal with better well-being and heavy suppression with more stress, but both are normal. There is no pass or fail.
